2,000 years old, Ausburg is one of the oldest cities in Germany. Founded by the Romans in the year 15bc, it became one of the largest business and exchange capitals in the middle-ages, thanks to the activity of the powerful banker families, Welser and Fugger, who then dominated whole sectors of the European economy - as a matter of interest, Jacob Fugger was the one who invented council houses, in 1516 he created the Fuggerei, the first council house in the world, of which some of the houses are still inhabited today. Surrounded by lakes and forests, Augsburg is a pleasant city and an ideal place to learn German. It is also a cultural and historical city, with numerous museums, a large number of splendid monuments, and artistic treasures from every era : the Fuggerei estate, Native houses of Mozart and Bertold Brecht, the townhall and its golden room, the “Kaiser meile”, the cathedral which owns the oldest representational stained-glass window in Germany, Saint Ulrich and Afra church, Saint Anne church, Schaezler palace, the way for the handcrafstmen in the heart of the old part of town, the Lech canal... And How pleasant it is to walk along the canals or in the tangled little streets, or to be among the old leaning houses. In a different style, you can’t miss visiting the zoo, or the botanical garden or the olympic canoe course. But, what really makes Augsburg internationally known is its puppets theatre which, for more than 50 years, has fascinated whole generations of Germans and has now become the symbol of the city. Even if history is felt everywhere in Augsburg, it isn’t living in the past, and today industries have replaced handcraft shops, bringing in a new prosperity. Cultural life is very active, with numerous festivals all year long, and in December, one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany. Augsburg’s surroundings offer numerous excursions and in less than an hour’s drive away you can find the Alps and the beautiful city of Munich.
Since 1963, ADK has welcomed worldwide students to teach them how to speak and “live” the German language. Indeed, this school believes German should be taught along with a culture and a lifestyle and its teaching should not only take place in a classroom. That is why some leisures shared between students and teachers are included in the programme such as : talking, afternoon tea with Bavarian specialties and of course “ having parties together” !
ADK school is located in a modern building with a Art Nouveau style, in the centre of Augsburg, a few minutes walk away from the pedestrian area and the station. Every classroom is equipped with audio-visual material and there is also a language lab.ADK is a member of the FaDaf, the association of schools with German as a foreign language, and is accredited by the Swedish government (CSN - The Swedish National Board of Student Aid) to welcome grant holders.
Euridiom's opinion ADK is a small German school which offers a very high provision of a service, you will find here a dynamic and pleasant teaching which will allow you to learn German but also to discover the country and its culture. The asset : the integration of the activities in the study programme !
